Picasso
Ceramics
The Attenborough Collection' draws from a unique collection
of over 140 Picasso ceramics collected over the last 50
years by Lord and Lady Attenborough. All of Picasso's activity
with ceramics centred around the Madoura pottery factory
in Vallauris, France. For the most part, Picasso utilised
existing popular forms, including plates, jugs and tiles,
but he also modelled or designed new forms, combining aspects
of painting and sculpture in the medium of ceramics. This
exhibition explores Picasso's developing relationship with
ceramics, from 1947 to his death in 1973. The Attenborough
collection was built up from 1954 onwards through frequent
visits to the Madoura pottery. As such it follows the development
of the artist, with works from the whole of Picasso's time
at Madoura. For further information on this exhibition.
